The Basics Of Tapestry Weaving Weekend Workshop April 13 + 14

Tapestry Weaving is weaving coloured weft thread through plain warp thread to create beautiful designs. It's that simple.

Well, not really. But we have you covered with an excellent instructor, all the supplies, a beautiful spot to learn and practice.

 This weekend workshop includes:

• Stories of the history and traditions of weaving.
  
• Planning out your design.
• Choosing your fibres - colours, textures, quantities.
• Warping the loom.
• Choosing and attaching tassels.
• Expert instruction and support from our instructor, Sheleigh.
• Lots and lots of time to practice because that's really what it takes.
• Plenty of opportunities for personalized assistance
• Lots of time to ask questions.

We will supply everything you need for the class, including:

• 25cm wide frame loom - As a special treat, if you decide you'd like to keep your loom after the class you may purchase it for 10% off.
• Warp thread
• Fibre bundle of your choosing, which may include Corriedale, Merino, DK yarn, bulky yarn, silk ribbons,

The class takes place over 2-days - on Saturday April 13th and Sunday April 14th from 12-3pm each day.

This is class is best for those 12 years and older as it takes dexterity, patience and persistence. If you know of a younger one who sounds like that then that can work, too. Perhaps a parental escort would be helpful.

All Maplerose workshops take place in the shop at 669 Baker Street, upstairs from Zinnia Textiles. Just enter through Zinnia's front door and come on upstairs.

Sheleigh (pronounced Sha-lay) Peers, your instructor, taught herself to spin on a spindle when she was 12 years old and, except for the occasional tea break, hasn’t stopped since. She is so passionate about spinning (and many textile arts) and loves to weave stories and history into her classes. Over the years she branched out into many different styles of fibre art including knitting, crochet, felting, and weaving. She continues to spin on her many historical wheels, as well as drop and supported spindles. When she isn’t fiddling with fuzz, she is working in her soil regenerative market garden with her husband and son in beautiful Balfour, BC.
