With the Flightpath Designs Indigo Tie-Dye Kit create your own indigo dye vat to make gorgeous designs with this natural dye process.
Perfect for homeschooling fun, making a special handmade gift or for getting crafty and learning something new! Or all 3 at once :)
If you've been curious about this magical process, this kit gives you all the inspiration and everything you need to get started. You will also need to provide a few tools and something to dye - but you probably have all that around the house.
With adult supervision, and enough rubber gloves, this kit is appropriate for ages 7 and up, depending on how hands-on you want the kiddos to get.
Indigo will dye all natural fibres, however cotton and silk will accept the colour the best.
Use this kit to dye whatever you like - upcycling is highly recommended and enouraged! How about pillow cases, tea towels, scarves, bandanas, t-shirts, undies, as long as it's made of silk or cotton they will come out all brand new! Especially good for covering up stained items ;)
You can achieve various shade of blue, depending on the material and number of dips. Experimentation is your friend.
The kit includes:
- Indigo powder
- Thiourea Dioxide
- Calx
- Disposable gloves
- Instructions + dye cards (specific steps to achieve classic tie-dye patterns)
Other equipment you will also need:
- 1 litre jar with lid
- Mask (to stay safe when mixing the powders)
- Measuring spoons, wooden chopsticks and long stick, which should not be used with food or for cooking afterwards
- String, elastics, wooden blocks, clothes pegs and or clamps (for creating resist patterns)
- 1 - 15 or 20 litre bucket
Each kit will dye approximately 1 pound of fibre dark blue or 2 pounds of fibre medium blue.
